No you haven't misplaced yer Bifocals, Maisie...G.M. Lowenthal really is
the "Proud Papa" of a rather large, furry and famous critter
better known as Hsing-Hsing. The National Zoo in Washington, D.C. is the
home of this beloved Giant Panda--- and here's how our own Uncle Bean
came to be associated with this particular bamboo-lovin' bear!
There are a group of wild 'n' crazy folks who love to meet on America Online and share their passions for a certain group of Collectible Products so near and dear to all our hearts. In cyberspace, they are known as MOBsters... nope, not because they're all named Guido or Vinnie, but because they're "Mad Over Boyds"! Anyway, this fun-loving' bunch of Loyal F.o.B.'s were tryin to figure out what do so to commemorate The Head Bean's fiftieth birthday...after all... what can you give a guy who already has everything! So, this Garrulous Group came up with a unique and lasting gift that will bring pleasure to not only THB and his Family...but to countless thousands of Zoo Goers and Animal Lovers as well. They donated $1000 (yowza!) in G.M. Lowenthal's name to adopt the World Famous Hsing-Hsing at the National Zoo. That's a lotta bamboo, baby! (And just imagine the Sacrifice these folks must have made...a thousand smackers buys about a truck-load of our eminently affordable Bears & hares - why, that's a month or two of "fixes" to a Boydsaholic!) Well, as you might expect...your old Uncle Bean was Floored, Flabbergasted, Flustered, and Flipped Out by this wonderfully Creative & Generous Gift. While he wuz still speechless (an occurrence more rare than a Panda Sighting in the wild), we reminded him that a new Panda was also about to join the Boyds Plush Family this Fall. "Eureka!!" sez he, "We'll name our new critter in honor of my Adoptee!" Thus, we welcome Hsing-Hsing Wongbruin to our Plush Menagerie. Our newest Panda is 14" black-an-tan Chenille Bean-Bag style for maximum Poseability and Skweeziness (that's an Official Technical Term that means 'you just gotta hug him') and he'll retail for about $20 - so even those recently "tapped-out" MOBsters can afford to get him. Our sincerest Thanks!! to the MOBsters out there in Cyberland -- We Salute You!
