Our Trip to the Big Apple (New York City)
June 2002

Day 2 continued

On the left you will see the first Post Office in NYC. It's from here that all zip codes start. This office's zip is 10000. On the right you will see the L'Ecole Culinary Cooking School, where many famous chefs have learned their craft.

This magnificent building is the Flatiron Building.

And here we are in Greenwich Village. They were getting ready for the Stonewall Festival, commemorating almost 30 years ago when gay people stormed the Stonewall bar and began their fight for equality.

What is NYC without Michael Jordan? <g> He even has a steakhouse in Grand Central Station but he is not there much!

This is Ground Zero... this picture will never begin to show you the enormity of this place. We chose not to go there because we all felt it was a graveyard, and we preferred to say a prayer as we went by.

Another shot of Ground Zero.

If you wish to visit one of their official sites, check this ... it's awe-inspiring..

Ground Zero

We were off to visit Wall Street and the Statue of Liberty. We got off our bus at Battery Park, and this is the first thing we saw..

This was the 'globe' or 'ball' that was in the courtyard of the World Trade Center. They have placed it in Battery Park as a sort of memorial.

Off to Wall Street... the first thing we saw was Fraunces Tavern. This is where General George Washington stayed the night he became President (did you know that NYC was once the capital of the United States?) As well, many important decisions and battles were planned here.

This is Federal Hall, where President Washington took the oath of office. It's on Wall Street.
