Our Trip to the Big Apple (New York City)
June 2002

Day 4

We all chose to sleep in this lovely Sunday morning - well at least until 8. We had planned to sight-see more, but Paula and Jamie were so tired, that they had more of a laid-back day. We chose to have breakfast in the Round Table Room of our Hotel, and then we were off! No more Gray Line buses for us.. it's time to take the cab. Our first stop was to Herald Square and of course, Macy's.

Herald Square is just across the street from Macy's and if you look hard enough on the street, you'll be able to see a green sign in the road just by the banner. That's the place that everyone stops and performs at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jamie promises she has great photos of this!

Our next stop was to visit Grand Central Terminal. This magnificent structure was saved by restoration in NYC some years ago, and was saved the fate that the classic Penn Central Station found.

Of course, all of this walking made us hungry, and what better place to stop for a bite was

We are absolutely hooked on Juniors (thanks to QVC) and this was no exception.

Tired, but not totally exhausted, we cabbed back to our hotel to await the evening's festivities... a Schooner ride on the most beautiful 5 masted yacht.

We had won this trip on our local PBS auction, and Jamie and Paula decided to join in the fun. The ship was known as the Schooner Adirondack  and it was unbelievable. Our excursion began at

The Chelsea Piers. Did you know that if the Titanic would have made it to NY, they would have docked here? Instead, they brought the survivors here and took them to St. Vincent's Hospital (named after Edna St. Vincent Millay, the author).

We boarded the ship at 6 and were treated to 2 hours of peace, champagne, and sea. These are some of our memories...

My best guy enjoys the sea -- might have been because he was once a Seabee.
